All work and no play make JACK a Dull boy.

Saturday, 1st October 2011.

AIESEC Chandigarh organized its sports day where the entire Local Chapter gathered for a game of football at the PEC Grounds at 6:15pm where Internationals were also involved in the game. AIESEC being an international organization tries to create opportunities where the members get to meet and interact with internationals who are working with AIESEC Chandigarh .

AIESEC Chandigarh keeps on organizing activities very often to make sure that the members are getting engaged in healthy and meaningful activities. An environment of healthy competitiveness is created where the members learn some new things from one another. AIESEC Chandigarh makes sure that work is mixed with some outdoor activities and unanimously decide games for different days of sports. Helping everyone learning how to concentrate AIESEC Chandigarh is doing its best to keep its members fit and active.

In the coming months the Local Chapter plans to involve the members and internationals in other sports activities like cricket and Basketball with an aim to provide a platform to these members where in they can indulge in healthy activities and learn a lot from them.

The most awaited meeting for AIESEC Chandigarh happened. Some of the new recruits had just come back from a once in a lifetime experience of the NLDS conference and this meeting was about what these delegates had learned so far in that conference and some important announcements. The new recruits were taught about branding and a few important things about AIESEC and how they all will play an important part in the Local Chapter. Important announcements about the upcoming conferences, namely NSC( national strategic conference) which is a conference for the Vice President’s and Local Conference which is for the whole AIESEC Chandigarh, being held in October were made.

The main attention of the meeting was the upcoming event “Balkalakaar”- an annual event which AIESEC Chandigarh hosts every year for the under privileged kids. The applications for the organizing Committee will be released soon. The new members had to be given their respective departments and the former was done immediately after these announcements. The new members of the local chapter got a chance to meet their new teams and department in which they will carry on with their AIESEC Experience.

Another wonderful week came to an end, and like every week I learnt a new dimension of life. One of my Intern from Egypt got hurt in an accident, and somehow he along me were in a dilemma that what should be the next step- He wanted to return back to his country ( but then he would have regretted throughout his life) and if he decides to stay back he won’t be able to work or move around.

Well I came back asked my parents and they said health is priority and its better if he returns back, but I wanted my friend to stay back, I just prayed for him and next day we went to hospital and got a check up done, I asked the same question to doctor and he too had no answer (quite unbelievable at that moment), came back home had a sleepless night thinking same can happen with anyone.

Next morning it was 6 hours of effort visited every hospital and ensured that he had best treatment and in the end he was happy and now has decided to recover and extend his internship. The reason I shared is not that I helped him, it’s really not about “I” the reason is that there is power in prayer, there is power in yourself too which comes from prayer, I really can’t express it because it is difficult.

But I feel that my week went productive. There is a feeling of relief and peace.

Alright so I don’t know how to begin with. I wrote and deleted the first line 6 times. It all started in my winter break, I was getting bored, surfing net and came across AIESEC. I just filled the form online in January 2011. Then the whole month passed away and I thought I will never get a call but suddenly in the month of February I received a call. Sometimes, small things in your life turns out to be one of the most remarkable things. I went and rather it was my very first group discussion & personal interview. I was nervous as I didn’t have any idea about it. It all happened and I waited a long for the final call from AIESEC. It was 2pm and I was sleeping when I received a call from my mentor, I couldn’t react well at that time and my mentor thought I am not at all excited which wasn’t the case. I was hell excited & I slept again. Thus, began another most fascinating journey of my life but initially I was unsure of what is expected from me and what was in store for me ahead. We had our ice-breakers & it was yet another amazing part of the organisation. I was recruited in education sector and since that day I love Education :p My AIESEC journey has been great so far with small speed breakers which told me that I am running too fast. There’s a lot more which I can give this to organisation and also take the same from it. I have seen immense growth and change in myself since the day I have joined this organisation and it is definitely the best platform to explore and develop one’s potential to the fullest.

So it’s that time of the year when most of the interns who were there with us won’t be there any longer. It’s time for them to move on with their lives and for us to move on with ours. I remember another perfect ending to a beautiful internship experience of Aline, an intern from France. We went to Floating Restaurant in Sirhind,Punjab. I remember the day when she arrived and she said, “I never want to live here, this is such a weird place.” Weird place was for India. I told her that when people arrive in India, they never want to live here. But when they leave they just don’t feel like going back to their respective countries. I also told her that we will talk about this when it will be her time to go. Just before the day she left, her words were changed and I reminded her of the similar lines which she said but words like “live” changed to “leave” and “weird” changed to “beautiful”. She said, “I never want to leave India, this is such a beautiful place.” If we can bring this kind of impact in every Interns life I guess purpose of AIESEC will be solved. Don’t believe in Quantity. Believe in Quality + Quantity together.

Also from this day, our department planned that we will start going out on every 2nd week (Sunday Mainly) for an outing so that we guys can be together as a TEAM. The thing that will always stay with you will be memories and the learning which you have gathered, not the position. Moreover if we as a team are strong, the results will be strong too.

Hello my name is Nikhil Suri and I am pursuing my 4th year of engineering from Chitkara University. I have heard about AIESEC a lot since my University is related to AIESEC Chandigarh but that time I was not able to get time for AIESEC but when I heard about Associate membership it seemed as if it was made only for me. My college had a lot of attendance issues but in Associate membership I have learnt to manage it. I am the Trainee buddy of Anathesia from Russia. My friends had never seen me speaking in English, it is not that I didn’t know English but I was not confident enough to speak English and you can say that I didn’t have someone to speak English with. So it was an great experience I helped her a lot, whether it’s dropping to bus station or shopping or any kind of problem I was there as a good friend. Now I can say that I also have an international friend and thanks AIESEC for such opportunities.

Hello, my name is Rishabh Angaria and I am pursuing my 11th from Shishu Niketan School. I became an Associate member of aiesec in Chandigarh in January 2011. I was inspired by my brother for becoming an Associate member, I had never talked to any intern or international before but now being an Associate member I really relate myself to all those internationals, it helps me improve my communication skills and I am really glad that I am the one who teaches them our culture and tell them about my city, my people and our lifestyle. I am really thankful to AIESEC for providing me such kind of international platform for my learning.

Hello everyone, my Name is Shubhi joshi and I am a student of MCM College Chandigarh. I heard about AIESEC from one of my friend, who recently became an Associate member; I was really motivated from the job-role which she told me. The first work which I did was working in organizing committee of August recruitments. Even though I worked there for a couple of days but it gave me a life changing experience. In my entire life I had never seen people from different colleges working selflessly and together in a team following the hierarchy. I really enjoyed that team and I am looking forward for more events. Secondly I did a Home-stay of a Polish girl named Zosia. It was a one night stay but I guess I made a lifelong friend. Even for a for little time span we became best buddies, we are still in touch and we still talk a lot. Thanks to AIESEC for providing this wonderful learning platform for the youth.

I came to Chandigarh on 6th August. It was Saturday evening and for the weekend AIESEC provided me homestay. I stayed with team leader of local committee – Mansi. We went for the beer with she and her friends. There were lots of AISECers and people who came for the trainee ship from all over the word – really multi-culture atmosphere AIESEC had some problems with providing me accommodation but on Tuesday I get into trainee house. Girls there were great. They make me feel in Chandigarh at home. I lived with girls from China, Nigeria, Ukraine, Germany and surprisingly –my roommate was Polish too. It was amazing to live in such a colorful apartment.

In my work I was supposed to work with three years old children. They were really cute and sweet. In India methods of teaching children are totally different to this I know from Poland. There is real discipline even in the kindergarten. It was difficult for me to get used to it but it has some advantages – kids are very quiet and they start to learn very early, at that age European children are only playing.

I had also some time to travel. It was my third trip to India but this country is incredible (as everybody knows – Incredible India , you never get bored of it and there is always thousands of interesting places you haven’t seen.

That month in India I can called time of my life.

This is my third week in Chandigarh and everything is going good. I started teaching children English at Chitkara International school. It is a big and very nice school. So far I’m teaching second and fifth grades. I enjoy working with kids. They are so much curious about me, my family and my country – Ukraine. They asked me what cast I belong to, whether I came to India only or Pakistan too and told me that I am very white. I live in apartment with other interns from different countries. So It’s never boring and there is always someone I can talk to. Also I had an opportunity to travel to Amritsar to see the well-known Golden Temple. It was a great trip full of good impressions. I enjoy living in Chandigarh. It is very clean and beautiful. There are a lot of interesting and beautiful places to go to. It is very green. I hope this internship will help me to grow in all spheres of my life and develop my professional skills. Well I felt like at home there and family was very hospitable. We also had Cultural Lunch in AIESEC, it was great to taste food from different countries. But what I enjoyed the most it’s Indian dances. I must say AIESECers are really good dancers. My first day at school ,AIESECer went with me and helped me with organizational issues. So thankful to AIESEC for their help and support.
